Wise Words

Some words of wisdom, all taken from the ancient scriptures:

Where then does wisdom come from?
Where does understanding dwell?
It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing,
concealed even from the birds in the sky.
Destruction and Death say,
“Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.”
God understands the way to it
and he alone knows where it dwells.

Job (a)

If any of you need wisdom, you should ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

James (b)

Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to respect the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs of Solomon (c)

Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Isaiah the prophet (d)

Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and have done nothing wrong"?

Proverbs of Solomon (e)

We have all gone astray like sheep; each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid the wrongdoing of us all upon him.

Isaiah the prophet (f)

Rabbi Sha'ul (i)

Change your mind and attitude to God, and turn to him, so he can cleanse away your record of wrong, and send you wonderful times of refreshment from the presence of the Lord, and send Yeshua your Messiah back to you again.

Shimon Kefa (j)

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Messiah, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
