Michelangelo, the Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet, could imagine his statues inside the stone before he carved them. The angel he carved was of his own making. Unlike a real angel, it could not help him. Yet there are many today that genuinely claim to have been assisted or protected by powerful angelic beings.
The Hebrew and Greek scriptures are a wonderful source of information on angels, with the word angel occurring more than two hundred and fifty times. All the New Testament writers confirm the existence of angels. They tell us that angels were the first of God’s creation, but soon became divided. Most stayed loyal to their Creator, but one-third turned to follow their beautiful, but self-seeking, angelic companion, Lucifer, who, following his defeat, attempts to destroy all that is good. Thankfully his power is limited, and one day his influence on this world will be gone forever.
