The ancient scriptures contain many types of literature: history, prophecy and poetry for example, but occasionally comes a passage that defies description, that holds within it deeper knowledge, a key that, if turned, will eventually unlock the deepest mysteries, and will satisfy the longing of our own hearts to know and be known. Surely here is a passage to meditate on, to open up one’s spirit and seek the One behind these words. Recorded for us by Yochanan, this has become the introduction to his compelling, eyewitness account of divine visitation.
Sit quietly, turn off your phone and read these words. Penned two thousand years ago, these words echo down the centuries to speak to you today. Having read them, read them again, turn them over in your mind, what do they mean, what do they say to you?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
