PINNACLES

Those who recognise they are spiritual beings have an aim, a desire, even a passion that is ever upward. The ancient “Book of Psalms” or Tehillim poses a question, “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord?” To help us along that upward path, there are certain passages contained in the ancient scriptures that are themselves pinnacles of literature, sublime passages that open up the transcendent to our finite minds.

Here are three pinnacles of scripture: Shepherd, Word and Love. Choose one, and in the stillness, let these ancient words sink deep into your being. These are beautiful passages, but each one is only a signpost, pointing to the One who is, the One who cares more deeply than the unspiritual mind will ever know.

The answer given by King David, writer of much of the Tehillim, to his question “Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?” is:
"The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god."
